Sottodiciotto Film Festival – Turin Screens Young opens his twelfth year with the special program dedicated to schools this year is replete with high-profile initiatives and highly topical. The extensive schedule of films, meetings, discussions and educational activities will consist in fact in a whole month
appointments - from 18 novembre al 17 December 2011 – for which bookings are open from 15
September and where great emphasis will be the subject of legality, theme of the next edition. Interpreted as an essential element of democratic society in the specific perspective of new generations to know and protect it calls, the subject carrier Sottodiciotto 2011 is integrate with many other events in the Festival's winning formula – organized by Torino and Ajax Turin (Educational Services Division and ITER) and directed by Sarah Cortellazzo and Aldo Garbarini – that, through the direct involvement of the youngest and the constant stimulus to participation and
reflection, has enjoyed increasing success over time and recorded, in the last edition, the presence of 22 thousand students and teachers.
The focus of the program is, as usual, audiovisual products, the National Competition in schools, reaching a record this year 228 short films in competition and that is the equal of many initiatives differentiated by age.
Dedicatedstudents from the superiors, the event "The Mafia and Cosa Nostra. Young people in the struggle for legality " follows, then, directly to the underlying theme edition 2011 and undertakes to address a wide reflection on one of the most dramatic and glowing reality of our country through the proposed four films – Gomorrah, In light of the sun, The hundred steps and Fortapàsc, Commented respectively by Gian Carlo Caselli, Don Luigi Ciotti, Fava and Maria José Marco Risi – and a final round table that will be attended by leading figures involved in various capacities in the fight against organized crime: Francesco Forgione, Lirio Abbate, Don Marcello Cozzi, Giulio Cavalli, Rosanna Scopelliti and again Gian Carlo Caselli.
In parallel, The Festival offers food for further comparison with the wide section "Action Movies – In defense of human and civil rights ", that combines direct testimony and films are particularly significant for their connection with current events or specific situations. On the occasion of International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, Farian Sabahi comment on the new film denounces the Iranian Jafar Panahi, Offside. The screening of Welcome by Philippe Lioret precede the speech by Teresa Albano in conjunction with the International Day of Migrants. The International Day of People with Disabilities will be celebrated through the testimony of little Matilda Pocaterra, suffering from spinal muscular atrophy, that will follow the screening of short films themed. Other screenings will be followed by meetings with international observers and witnesses involved in the field of human rights and civil: Assumption Confente address the problem of child abuse on the basis of El Bola directed by Achero Mañas.
